At one time, people who wanted to eliminate facial wrinkling, creasing and other visual evidence of the aging process were faced with a very limited array of treatment options. Given that there were few viable alternatives, it was often necessary to commit to invasive and fairly high-risk procedures. Many modern treatments for these same issues, however, do not entail any tissue removal, incisions, potential scarring or downtime. Among the most popular of these is the use of BOTOX® for reducing dynamic wrinkles around the mouth and eyes and on the forehead.
Temporary Results
One of the biggest drawbacks among invasive anti-aging procedures is the risk of obtaining permanent or semi-permanent results that you aren’t happy with. Rather than altering the actual facial structure, BOTOX® temporarily relaxes the nerves that control the muscles responsible for facial expression. This causes these same muscles to achieve and maintain a relaxed state, which in turn smooths out the surface skin. The results typically last four to six months, but if you like what you see, these treatments can be safely repeated several times per year in order to maintain a smooth and line-free visage.
How BOTOX® Treatments are Performed
BOTOX® involves only minimal discomfort. During the procedure, the medical professional simply injects the solution into the desired areas. Once your injections are complete, you will be free to go and can immediately resume your normal activities.
While the full range of the results will not be apparent right away, you may notice a marked decrease in facial wrinkling during the first one or two days after your procedure. Additional changes can be expected to manifest over the course of the next week.
How to Know if BOTOX® is Right for You
BOTOX® can be used for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles across the visage. These are commonly caused by the ongoing use of the muscles responsible for facial expressions and are generally present across the brow, around the mouth and around the eyes. Deeper facial creases that are the result of significant volume loss cannot be effectively treated with BOTOX®. Cosmetic issues such as these are generally best resolved with other types of injectables. When both dynamic wrinkles and deep facial creasing exist together, it may be best to receive a combination of both BOTOX® and a filler for optimal cosmetic benefits.
