Laser Skin Resurfacing with the Cortex

laser skin resurfacing nashville

Laser treatments have become very popular over the past several years. They are used in dentistry, eye surgery, vascular treatments, and for skin resurfacing, among other things. The Cortex system is a state-of-the-art development that utilizes lasers of different wavelengths to more effectively treat skin conditions.

The advantage of the Cortex system is its use of CO2 lasers for deeper layers of the skin along with Erbium YAG lasers for the superficial layers. This allows the system to be used as an alternative to traditional peels. It is also effective at targeting fine lines and wrinkles.

The CO2 function of the Cortex system is good for getting rid of more moderate lines and wrinkles. It is used when deeper skin resurfacing is needed. Acne scars and flaws in the skin’s texture are other conditions for which the method is used. In short, the Cortex system is the best of both worlds when it comes to treating skin conditions on the surface along with conditions that are rooted in the deeper layers of the skin.

The Cortex system delivers pulses of light to the targeted areas of the skin to be treated. Healing time is decreased because the technology allows for areas of untreated skin to remain between the spots that are treated.

Each treatment takes about an hour to complete. Following treatment, patients should expect a recovery time of about a week, after which dramatic results can typically be noticed. Improvements in the skin’s appearance will continue over the next several months as the body produces additional collagen.

Collagen is a protein that is found in the skin as well as other tissues in the body that becomes a kind of foundation that gives the skin its firmness. As the amount of collagen produced by the body decreases over time, the skin can begin to sag and wrinkles will develop. Laser skin resurfacing Nashville treatments stimulate the production of collagen so that the skin can return to its youthful appearance.

Sunspots can usually be effectively eliminated with the Cortex system, as can other pigmentation changes. This method of skin resurfacing is frequently used to remove acne scarring as well.

If you have a skin condition you would like to have treated, you can get more details about how the Cortex system can help you by having a discussion with our team at Tarola Plastic Surgery. That is the best way to go about deciding if the treatment method is right for you. Oftentimes, this treatment works best when combined with other treatments, such as a facelift or BOTOX®. We have offices in Hendersonville and Murfreesboro, TN. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.
