How Long Does Laser Tattoo Removal Take?

At Tarola Plastic Surgery in Murfreesboro, TN, we understand that people’s taste changes over time. We don’t believe you should live with a tattoo that no longer represents who you are for the rest of your life. For this reason, we are proud to offer laser tattoo removal, a quick, effective way to fade or erase tattoos that no longer speak to you. Today, we’re taking a closer look at how long this treatment session takes.

How Long Does Laser Tattoo Removal Take?

Laser tattoo removal sessions can take a mere 10 to 15 minutes to complete if you are only trying to eliminate a small unwanted tattoo. However, your session may take longer if your tattoo is larger or features several colors. It is not unheard of for laser therapy sessions to take a full hour to complete.

You should also be aware that the number of treatment sessions you will need depends on several factors, including the color, age, size, and location of the unwanted tattoo. Some colors are a lot harder to remove than others. Also, as a general rule of thumb, the newer your tattoo is, the more treatment sessions will be necessary to remove it completely. Anywhere from two to 12 sessions may be necessary for you to achieve your ideal results.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

There is a very good chance that you will be considered a good candidate for this treatment if you are relatively healthy and concerned about an unwanted tattoo. However, we need to discuss your health history and current health to verify that this treatment will be safe for you. We also need to review the preparation and post-treatment care guidelines with you to ensure that the process goes smoothly from start to finish.

For example, you need to be able to prevent sun damage in the weeks leading up to your scheduled treatment session. As another example, you must be able to stop taking any medications that can cause photosensitivity. We will give you a complete list of preparation instructions during your initial consultation. If there are any guidelines you don’t think you can follow, let us know during your initial consultation. Your candidacy may be affected.

What Can I Expect During My Recovery Period?

You can expect a quick and easy recovery period with very few post-treatment care restrictions. The restrictions you are given, though, it is very important that you follow. For example, you will need to avoid getting a sunburn or allowing your skin to become dehydrated. You also will need to keep your blood pressure normal for at least three days following your treatment session. Once your skin has scabbed over, getting exercise will help your results become apparent faster.

It is worth noting that it’s not just exercising that can help you realize your final results faster. You can also help your body eliminate the pigments broken down during laser tattoo removal faster by not smoking. Consuming tobacco products, like cigarettes, taxes your immune system significantly. It will take longer for your immune system to eliminate the broken-down pigments if it has to eliminate all of the chemicals in tobacco products, alcohol, or other unhealthy substances.

What Other Treatments May Make Me Feel More Confident?

During your initial laser tattoo removal consultation, we will discuss all of your aesthetic and medical goals. In addition to laser therapy for unwanted tattoo removal, we offer a number of cosmetic treatments and procedures to help our clients feel more confident in their skin. For example, if you are concerned about dynamic wrinkles but you don’t feel ready for anti-aging surgery, you may benefit from Botox injections.

Botox is an injectable muscle relaxant that has been used for decades to correct a number of medical and cosmetic concerns. Some of the most common medical conditions people seek this treatment for are cervical dystonia, chronic migraines, and excessive sweating. However, it can also be used to treat such medical conditions as blepharospasms. Furthermore, it can be used to address such cosmetic concerns as forehead folds, brow lines, and crow’s feet.

Am I a Good Botox Candidate?

You need to sit down with a cosmetic expert to discuss your goals and health before you can find out whether Botox injections are right for you. If you are not allergic to bovine protein and you’re not on daily blood-thinners, there’s a good chance you will be considered healthy enough for this treatment. However, there are other factors to consider, like whether you are on oral muscle relaxants that you have to take daily.
