Add Volume with a Breast Augmentation

breast augmentation

What Is A Breast Augmentation?

A breast augmentation is also known as breast implant surgery or augmentation mammoplasty. It involves surgically increasing the size of the breasts. In most cases, silicone, or saline implants are used to increase the size of the breasts. However, fat can also be taken from another place in the body and placed inside the breasts via fat grafting.

Why Do Women Get A Breast Augmentation?

There are several reasons why women opt to undergo breast augmentation. Women often get this procedure because they want a better-proportioned figure. Aging, pregnancy, and significant weight loss also affect the shape and size of the breasts and are common reasons for augmentation surgery. Additionally, women may get this procedure because one breast is noticeably smaller than the other is.

Candidates for Breast Augmentation

Whether this procedure is right for you will be discussed during your consultation, but healthy women whose breasts are fully developed are generally considered good candidates for a breast augmentation. The decision to get any type of plastic surgery should be a personal one. Women should not get this procedure to fulfill anyone else’s expectations.

Is Breast Augmentation A Safe Procedure?

Breast augmentation is a very safe procedure if it is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon. However, every surgery has risks. Bleeding, infection, scarring, and pain are possible during the healing process, but these will be monitored during your follow-up appointment. Keep in mind that if silicone or saline implants are used, then they may need to be replaced at some point.

What Type Of Results Can I Expect From A Breast Augmentation?

The results of a breast augmentation will be noticed immediately. However, the full results will not be visible until after the swelling subsides. Results are not designed to last a lifetime, as breasts can change due to weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, and aging. Scheduling annual checkups may be necessary in order to evaluate breast condition and note any tissue changes or possible leakages.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

You can expect some soreness and pain after your surgery. It is important for you to walk for a few minutes per day after your surgery in order to reduce your risk of blood clots. If your job does not require strenuous activity, then you may be able to return to work within a week. You will have to avoid physical activity for a few weeks while your breasts heal. Consult with your plastic surgeon before resuming physical activity.
