How long does it take for a skin to tighten after liposuction?
Following liposuction, the appearance of the skin depends on the skin’s elasticity. Younger people tend to have better skin elasticity than older people. If the skin has been previously stretched by obesity or pregnancy, the skin will have less elasticity. Patients with good skin elasticity can expect a more smooth and natural appearance after liposuction. Patients with poor skin elasticity can expect some degree of skin wrinkling following liposuction and may require skin excision. For example, liposuction following pregnancy will correct localized fat deposits but usually have no effect on the loose, stretched skin. These women often require an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, to achieve a smooth and flat abdomen.
