Every year, almost 220,000 Americans decide rhinoplasty is just what they need to achieve a level of self-confidence they had previously only dreamed of. At Tarola Plastic Surgery in Murfreesboro, TN, we hear our clients rave about several aspects of this procedure. Today, we’re taking a closer look at this procedure, including how long the results last and what results you can expect, to help you determine if it is right for you.
Is Rhinoplasty Permanent?
For most people, the results of a nose job last a lifetime. However, as with everything else in life, there are exceptions. For example, you may need a follow-up procedure following a sports injury or motor vehicle accident. As another example, you may need a follow-up procedure, or a different cosmetic treatment, if you develop nasolabial folds as you age.
What Cosmetic Treatments Can Treat Nasolabial Folds?
If you develop nasolabial folds after your nose job but don’t want a follow-up procedure, BOTOX injections may be ideal for you. BOTOX is a non-invasive anti-aging treatment that erases wrinkles, lines, and folds for months at a time.
One of the greatest things about BOTOX is its convenience. There is minimal preparation required, and the recovery is a breeze, too. You’ll have to go a couple of days without smoking or drinking alcohol before your treatment, and you won’t be able to drink alcohol or smoke in the two days following your treatment. However, there is no downtime, and the treatment only takes around 15 minutes, so you won’t need to miss any work.
What Results Can I Expect?
Rhinoplasty is an incredibly versatile procedure. It can address problems that are both cosmetic and medical in nature, affecting both the appearance and functionality of your nose. Some of the most common improvements sought include a reduction in the nasal tip, a reduction in the bridge of the nose, and a decrease in the size of the nose. However, not everyone seeks a nose job because they feel like their nose is too big.
Some people seek rhinoplasty because they feel that their nose is too small. Some other benefits that can be derived from this procedure include reshaping the nostrils, correcting a deviated septum, improving the sense of harmony and balance with other facial features, improving breathing, increasing the size of the nose, and correcting asymmetry.
How Should I Prepare for My Procedure?
We will give you specific pre-op preparation instructions during your initial consultation. Some instructions may vary. For instance, some people will need to fast for eight hours before surgery due to the type of anesthesia they receive. As another example, you may be instructed to stop taking certain medications or supplements temporarily.
One of the most important preparation steps you will need to follow is refraining from alcohol and tobacco consumption for two weeks prior to surgery. There are several reasons why these substances should be avoided before surgery, including helping to ensure that your vitals are normal before your procedure. Another vital preparation step you will need to take is to limit your exposure to UV radiation.
How Long Will My Recovery Take?
You can generally expect your rhinoplasty recovery to take roughly six to eight weeks. After this time has passed, you will probably be cleared to resume all of your usual activities, like lifting weights and doing CrossFit.
What Can I Expect My Recovery Timeline to Look Like?
Week 1
Roughly one week after your procedure, the splint protecting your nose will most likely be removed. Once it’s removed, you should wear glasses as little as possible until the bridge of your nose is done healing. You should not expect to return to work during the first-week post-op. Generally, five to seven days off from work is recommended for people who have sedentary jobs. Also, you will need to keep pressure off of your face, not lift heavy objects, and limit sun exposure.
Weeks 3 and 4
During the first three to four weeks following your procedure, you will need to avoid most cardiovascular exercises. Walking is okay, but running, swimming, and other intense workouts are not okay. Once your recovery has progressed sufficiently, you can slowly get back into your usual workout routine.
Week 6
Many people can resume their anaerobic workout routine. However, the stability of your bones must first be evaluated by your surgeon.
